If you are near Collolières, which is famous for its chestnut factory "Confectionery Azureène", you should use the opportunity to visit the Chartreuse de la Verne. Deeply embedded in the mountain between cork oaks and eucalyptus groves, you find the the half-ruined abbey. Heavy convent walls surround the town and make it to a place of peace and reflection, isolated from the rest of the world. The Abbey, founded in 11th century by german monks, was subsequently destroyed and rebuilt several times. Nowadays it is under direction of 16 nuns. They earn their living by sight-seeing, the monastery guest house and souvenir selling. The madonna statues made from dolomite are very famous. The visit of this medieval world is a fascinating journey and an experience for young and old.
